Wow! We did it!

The Sound Wall Mural is finally complete. We had a lovely reveal party last week and it was so amazing to celebrate the completion of the project with all the artists and our friends and families.

I lingered a bit on my very last section and really enjoyed taking a bit more time finishing it. I painted so many square feet of the wall that a lot of my designs were pretty simple out of sheer survival mode. This last panel I had a little more fun with detail and content which felt like a great way to wrap up such a large project. Check out snapshots of all the sections of the mural I painted during the project over on my website.

Murals on murals!

As the season for outdoor murals wanes, I’m grateful to have a couple more final projects I’m heading into. The Inlander has re-instated their wonderful local music festival, Volume and I’ve been getting to assist with some organizing. I booked a dozen or so of the bands on the near 100-band-lineup, and I’m spear-heading the task of painting promo designs on windows downtown to help spread the word about the festival. Of course I pulled from my Sound Wall Mural list of collaborators and have been having a blast hopping around downtown brightening up windows of some of the host venues.

I don’t have much experience at all painting on windows so it’s been fun doing a bit of research and experimenting with different ways to accomplish the task. Thank goodness for window painters out there who have shared lots of tips and tricks on youtube! After puttering around the internet we went with interior latex paint and it’s been working great, especially when you paint a flood of white below your colors. It really allows for the color to pop. And with a little water and a scraper, it glides right off the window easily. I can say that painting on glass is NOT forgiving and requires a really steady hand. Impressed by the pros who do this sort of work frequently! Next time you are downtown, be on the look out for our bright green and blue displays. 🤩

And last but not least, in under two weeks I kick off my last mural of the season and probably my biggest yet. I have the honor of painting a large mural on the back of the brand new Trader Joe’s opening in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. I’m excited to share the final result in next month’s newsletter!

Clearing some space in the studio as I head into fall months to get started preparing for holiday markets. Seems early to be thinking about the holidays but it’s time to start working on new card designs, prints and special releases I like to do for winter markets. I’ll be sending a new collection of ceramics into the kiln soon and am excited to spend some time working on some new paintings. After all this mural work, I’m so excited to be painting on a smaller scale during colder months and explore new themes in my work. Join me for some live music this month! I’m excited to be putting a full band together for the first time in YEARS to play some of my original music. And of course, Alcohol & Feelings is making a couple appearances this month as well!
